Serving Size: 2-4

Ingredients

For the Sloppy Joe Filling:

  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • ½ small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 large green bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • Cayenne pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1-2 tablespoons Morehouse Yellow Mustard
  • ¼ cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

For the Sandwiches:

  • 8 slices of bread (white, sourdough, or brioche)
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sloppy Joe Filling:
  • Heat avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic, cooking until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula, and cook until browned.
  • Stir in cayenne, salt, and smoked paprika. Cook for another minute.
  1. Prepare the Sauce:
  • In a bowl, mix Worcestershire sauce, Morehouse Yellow Mustard, tomato sauce, and brown sugar.
  • Stir until the brown sugar is fully dissolved.
  1. Combine & Simmer:
  • Pour the sauce mixture into the pan with the beef.
  • Stir well and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.
  1. Assemble the Sandwiches:
  • Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  • Place 2 slices, buttered side down, in a skillet over medium-low heat.
  • Lay one slice of American cheese on each, then spoon a generous amount of sloppy joe filling on top.
  • Top with another slice of American cheese, then place the remaining bread slices on top, buttered side up.
  1. Grill to Perfection:
  • Cook 2 sandwiches at a time for 2-3 minutes per side until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted.
  • Press gently with a spatula to ensure even grilling.
  1. Serve & Enjoy:
  • Repeat with the remaining sandwiches.
  • Slice in half and serve hot.
