Golden Grilled Cheese Sloppy Joes
Ingredients
For the Sloppy Joe Filling:
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil
- ½ small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 large green bell pepper, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- Cayenne pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1-2 tablespoons Morehouse Yellow Mustard
- ¼ cup tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
For the Sandwiches:
- 8 slices of bread (white, sourdough, or brioche)
- 8 slices American cheese
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
Instructions
- Cook the Sloppy Joe Filling:
- Heat avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic, cooking until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula, and cook until browned.
- Stir in cayenne, salt, and smoked paprika. Cook for another minute.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- In a bowl, mix Worcestershire sauce, Morehouse Yellow Mustard, tomato sauce, and brown sugar.
- Stir until the brown sugar is fully dissolved.
- Combine & Simmer:
- Pour the sauce mixture into the pan with the beef.
- Stir well and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the Sandwiches:
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Place 2 slices, buttered side down, in a skillet over medium-low heat.
- Lay one slice of American cheese on each, then spoon a generous amount of sloppy joe filling on top.
- Top with another slice of American cheese, then place the remaining bread slices on top, buttered side up.
- Grill to Perfection:
- Cook 2 sandwiches at a time for 2-3 minutes per side until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted.
- Press gently with a spatula to ensure even grilling.
- Serve & Enjoy:
- Repeat with the remaining sandwiches.
- Slice in half and serve hot.
