Horseradish 101: How Atomic Differs from Traditional Variants

Horseradish comes with a very distinct flavor profile that adds a complex element to many different recipes and foods. While all horseradish comes with a kick, Atomic Horseradish cranks it up to the next level. Let’s take a look at what horseradish is and how atomic deviates from the traditional variants.

High quality prepared horseradish in Phoenix, AZ and Los Angeles, CA.What is Horseradish?

Horseradish is a root that is native to Russia and Hungary. However, it has made its way to North America, and there is even the horseradish capital of the world in Collinsville, Illinois. The root has a strong flavor profile due to the compound allyl isothiocyanate. This compound is found in other pungent root vegetables, such as mustard and wasabi.

Horseradish is most commonly prepared as a creamy sauce, but some recipes actually call for the root to be incorporated into a recipe grated, fresh. There is no right or wrong way to utilize the strong root vegetable, but there are variations.

What is Different About Atomic Horseradish?

Atomic Horseradish kicks up the heat even more than its traditional horseradish counterpart. What kicks up the heat? The addition of parsnips to the recipe. It’s added to control the bitterness, but then comes with the added benefit (for some) of even more heat packed in each bite. A bite of food with Atomic Horseradish will leave the sinuses feeling the heat.

Add Atomic Horseradish to Your Favorite Foods

Some of the staple foods that you think of when it comes to horseradish are Bloody Marys, shrimp cocktail, and a complementary sauce for beef tenderloin. However, there are so many different ways to add a bit of kick to your meals and snacks. Below are some examples of creative ways to use Atomic Horseradish.

Atomic Bacon Horseradish Dip

An easy addition to any appetizer spread is a dip for chips and vegetables. Consider trying out a bacon horseradish dip with an extra spice. Simply combine the following ingredients: cream cheese, half and half, bacon, cheddar cheese, Atomic Horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and pepper. Serve alongside potato chips and carrots.

Honey Horseradish Vinaigrette

Another easy way to enjoy Atomic Horseradish is to add it to a homemade vinaigrette or dressing. You can whip up a simple dressing by combining olive oil, lemon juice, Atomic Horseradish, honey, garlic powder, spicy brown mustard, red pepper flakes, and pepper. This goes well with a kale and bacon salad.

Reuben Rollups

Another approach to an appetizer is a simple spin on a Reuben sandwich as a bite sized roll up. On a flour tortilla, layer corned beef, Swiss cheese, and a spread made up of cream cheese, spicy brown mustard, and Atomic Horseradish. Top off with a layer of sauerkraut. Roll up and slice into bite sized pieces.
